Bards, sorcerers and wizards must choose from a selection of first-level spells at character creation. Your character can learn additional spells by finding or purchasing spell scrolls (if a wizard), and by selecting additional spells as you level up.

Clerics automatically know all of their first-level spells. Note that clerics and wizards need to memorize (prepare) their spells before casting them. Rangers and paladins must also prepare spells once they gain access to casting abilities at level 4. Sorcerers may cast any spell they know without needing to prepare that spell. In exchange for this ability, Sorcerers have access to fewer spells than Wizards.

While playing, remember that you can only prepare spells while at a rest point or a tavern. Make sure to carefully select the right mix of spells for the adventure ahead before venturing into danger.

To prepare spells, go your your character sheet and click the Spells tab. Once that tab has displayed, select the spells you wish to prepare by dragging each spells icon into the appropriate slot.

Each class has a fixed progression of how many spells of each spell level they may use at a given character level. Refer to the class description of your character in this compendium and scroll to the bottom to view the spell chart.
